Hello, and welcome to my blog. This is a personal passion project; an extension of my mind and thoughts as they relate to Generative AI. There’s been a lot of hype around Generative AI recently, and I believe it’s well warranted. The impact of this technology hasn’t just made ripples in numerous industries and markets, it’s made waves; colossal waves to be exact. But what exactly is Generative AI, what are the immediate implications of Generative AI, and what is the future of reality as we know it?

What exactly is Generative AI?

“Generative AI describes algorithms (such as ChatGPT) that can be used to create new content, including audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos.” Traditional AI is typically considered for recognizing patterns, analyzing large amounts of data and information, and providing actionable insights based on historical knowledge. Generative AI uses neural network techniques, such as transformers and GANs, to create new content and information. Some examples you’ve most likely heard about in the past few months have been ChatGPT, Bard, Midjourney, and DALL-E.

Implications of Generative AI

So, why exactly should you give a rats ass about Generative AI? What’s so high and mighty about this technology that separates it from the rest of the technological advancements within the past decade? Well, for one, it’s coming to take your job, and it has no feelings of remorse for when it does. Secondly, the rate of innovation in the field of Generative AI is absolutely mind boggling; it seems as though there is a new development, new app, or new use case every 24 hours. And lastly, the integration of Generative AI into society will lead to a new era of art and creativity, challenging our very definitions of what art is. For fucks sake, some guy won an art competition with an AI-generated piece of work.

The future of reality as we know it

From art to business to healthcare to education, Generative AI has become an integrated advancement that organizations must adopt, or risk being left behind. As technological sophistication increases exponentially, and innovation becomes mainstream due to generative and original concepts, the future of reality is uncertain to say the least. I bet if we asked the creators of the smartphone or internet what the future had in store (social media, financial applications, entertainment, etc.), they would have had no idea the implications and reverberations we are seeing now. There is a mental health crisis on our hands due to algorithmic manipulation on social applications and systematic approaches to exploit human’s natural dopamine-reward pathways. I can’t say for certain whether Generative AI will build on these negatives, or negate them, but what I can do is present the latest information and advancements so that the most important party of all can decide what’s best; you.

In Conclusion

Listen, I’m not a technical person. There are many, many aspects of AI let alone computers and software that I have zero understanding of. This website is my best attempt at distilling down the convoluted nature of Generative AI on the internet, into actionable insights and informed decisions. I don’t know what the hell is going on, but I’ll be damned if I’m not on board the train of Generative AI, heading towards an inevitable future.

Glad I stumbled across your site! Your exploration of the future of reality left me pondering the true extent of Generative AI’s influence. It’s a reminder that the consequences, both positive and negative, may surpass our current understanding. I personally believe that a healthy amount of fear is more than necessary, and I appreciate your acknowledgement of this.

As a non-technical person myself, I commend your efforts in distilling the complexity of Generative AI into actionable insights. I can see it growing into a valuable resource/space for those seeking to grasp the basics and stay informed.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I wish you all the best in your exploration of Gen AI. xx

Wow, Patrick, I’m so glad you decided to write this blog & can’t wait to read more!

I have a question that maybe you can answer – Is there a person (or organization) that was a lead/main “inventor” of the core technology of Generative AI, or has this been enhanced & developed over a long period of time by the entire tech world, as the result of the natural evolution of technology?

Thank you for already (in this Intro post) expanding my understanding of Generative AI. So fascinating!

    All the best to you,

Great question! Geoffrey Hinton is typically referred to as the “Godfather of AI;” you can listen to a podcast where he expresses his regrets here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5iPjFDKUJlX2ZceJAyUdSG

The core technology has definitely been enhanced and developed over a long period of time, but it hasn’t been until recently that the layperson could access this technology. The interface and programs that we [humans] act with (computers, smartphones, APIs, etc.) have grown to a point where, even people with minimal knowledge, can access what has been and is, a very technical domain.

Thanks so much for the kind words!
